Contracture Scars form as a result of injuries that cause large amounts of skin removal. Because a large area of skin is lost, the scar pulls the edges of the adjacent skin together in a process called contraction. Contraction of the skin in the face and neck region may affect the surrounding tissue, including muscles and tendons, and restrict functioning in those areas.
