Rhinoplasty, or nasal surgery, has emerged as one of the most popular procedures available due to technological advancements that allow surgeons to produce good aesthetic results using minimally invasive techniques. Whether you wish to reconstruct the nose after an accident or if you want to modify the appearance of the nose, Dr. Yang’s expertise in both facial plastic surgery and Otolaryngology (ENT) coalesce in the artistry and technicalities of this procedure.

About the Rhinoplasty Procedure

Rhinoplasty, also commonly referred to as a nosejob provides our patients with the ability to modify aspects of their nose without changing their unique facial appearance. Similarly, patients who have trouble breathing due to an internal nasal injury or septum malfunction, often elect to cosmetic nasal reshaping in addition to the internal restucturing of the nasal septum. Most common, however, is our patients desire to bring harmony to their facial features by reducing the size or appearance of one or more aspects of their nose.

Changing the shape of the tip of the nose, decreasing the size of the dorsal hump (bump of the bridge of the nose), narrowing the nostrils and general reallignment of the nose are just a few of the many ways the Rhinoplasty procedure has benefitted our patients. For some of our patients surgery is a way to correct their facial proportions, but for other patients the Rhinoplasty procedure gives them a chance to look as good and as beautiful as they feel. Regardless, Dr. Yang is an expert at maintaining the gender appropriate proportions that enhance patients overall facial symmetry.

Rhinoplasty Techniques Used by Dr. Yang

Open Rhinoplasty

The open rhinoplasty is an excellent option for patients who wish to alter the appearance of the tip of their nose and nostrils because it provides surgeons with the greatest access to the tissue in that region. During the procedure, Dr. Yang makes an incision under the tip of the nose on the columella (the skin between the nostrils) after which he is able to access the lower nasal cartilage.

Closed Rhinoplasty

In the closed rhinoplasty technique, Dr. Yang is able to modify the appearance of the nose without any incisions or cutting of the nasal skin. If the patient does not wish to change the appearance of the tip of their nose, Dr. Yang prefers to use this method as it is less invasive and requires less time to heal.

The Rhinoplasty Consultation

During the consultation Dr. Yang’s main goal is to first identify what aspects of the nose the patient likes and dislikes. By breaking down the components of the nose into the patients likes and dislikes, for example, the tip of the nose, nostril size, slope of the nose, the overall profile, Dr. Yang is able to get a clear image of what the patient’s desired outcome is and the appropriate technique to give the patient the best possible result.

It is then important for Dr. Yang to understand the patient’s prior history with their nose to create a treatment plan that addresses all of the issues relevant to each unique patient’s case. Dr. Yang will ask about any nasal trauma or prior nasal or sinus injuries or surgeries, as well as any history of breathing issues, allergies, etc. To provide the best possible surgical or non-surgical outcome, it is vital that the patient does not withold any information pertinent to their rhinoplasty procedure.

Lastly, Dr. Yang employs the use of a computer imaging program that allows him to manipulate the nasal features noted as unappealing to the patient while maintaining appearance of the nose that the patient wants. Using this program, patients are given the opportunity to see pictures of their desired post-operative results. It is during this time that Dr. Yang and the patient decide exactly the modifications that will be made during surgery and the possible techniques that would provide the patient with the best, most natural looking result.
